goelan head is bunga head!!!!!

Jim Hammond Monday, 7 August 2006 04:22
Jim,

It's a common mistake, especially as the surf break is known as Bunga, but the head is actually Goalen, Bunga is further south (hidden valley picture from the "fishermans hut").

The reason I know is my family owned the land.

Cheers,

Jim Hammond

Hi!!

I'd like to thank you for the great reports about the NZ-tracks! We are planning on going to NZ in 2007 and had big problems in finding the right tracks! Your pictures were very helpful because this is one of the rare pages in the internet that show what's really to be seen on the tracks!

Tracks on our to-do list are now:

- Tongariro Northern Circuit
- Lake Waikaremoana Track
- Queen Charlotte Track
- Abel Tasman Coastal Track (by paddling)
- Inland Pack Track
- Kepler Track

Do you think this is a good choice? Or would we miss a must-see?

So, keep on having fun exploring this beautiful planet!!!

Greetings from Germany!

Rossland

Hi,

Sorry for the late reply, but have just returned from trekking in the Himalayas (to appear shortly on the site).
I think that you have picked a good selection of tracks, which will give you a good feel for the breadth of NZ landscapes. My only suggestion would be to consider either the Routeburn/Greenstone (bookings necessary for the Routeburn like the Kepler) or Rees/Dart Tracks as well (the latter is cheaper and gets right into the heart of the mountains (particularly if you can get up to the Cascade Saddle)

The descriptions of the great walks here in New Zealand are salivating teasers for part-time trampers such as myself. The photos do make everything look easy. One word: Fantastic! Thank you.

Hi there,
I was pointed to your beautiful website by my sister Jennifer Kingma in Canberra.
I have been to Aus many times and plan more trips (next one next week) to see my kids who are all living there now , so I will use your site to plan some walks and trips to the less known spots. Thanks, its gorgeous and I cant wait to get out there again!

I stumbled across this site looking for some details about Narooma. What fabulous photos!! Half a world away and you've encouraged me to plan a walk south of the Pambula River towards Eden.

Spent many a good night at Jame's Camp when GA Hammond owned this piece of dirt. There once was a great strawberry patch in the hidden valley behind this camp created and worked by John Hammond, I guess some still survive and grow today.

Thanks to GA, Geoffrey, John and the rest of the family for some great holidays at this fantastic site.

The "Fishermans Hut" at the beach at Hidden Valley is called Camp James - so named after my younger brother (born 27 Jan 1976). My family owned the property then and built Camp James at the site of the original homestead of the Hergenans who used to grow beans in the Hidden Valley in the 50's and 60's.

Thank you for the wonderful trip reports on NZ. I am tramping there in Feb. '06 and found your track descriptions and photos to be the best I have come across on the web thus far. I plan to do 5 walks, 4 of which you have a report (dusky track is the fifth tramp). In a lifetime I would hope to cover a fraction of the NZ you have seen. Great job.

Hello Pennie and David!
No, I had not forgotten you! I have been planning to write you since I got back the end of the december. Unfortunately I misplaced my booklet with your addresses. Luckily I found it again. You have a beautiful website and it brings back a lot of memories. Sylvie and I also had a great time in New Zealand. Next time (I am sure there will be a next time) I hope to have the time to see much more of these beautiful islands! I hope you are still having a great time and hope to hear from you. I will in any case follow your adventures on the web!
Take care,
Barbara

at last I have snuck onto your path - wonderful images, and thoughts: wish I was tramping, too. The oven is running very well, but coughs and spews a bit. We just wait for the timer to ring. Much love, yer bro'.

Have just enjoyed your latest walks. My you have been busy. Seems like although wet or grey at times, overall the weather has been a bit better than in the beginning.Hope so. Seems that you get to meet ever so many great new friends too.
We've had good rains and have greened up heaps but your greens are really green! More brilliant than we ever get. Thinking of you & your carefree tramping in NZ. What brilliant views. Look forward to the next news. Luv Liz
