Describes walks at the northern and southern ends of the Heysen Trail, Australia's longest walking track - a contrast between the rugged mountains of of the Flinders Ranges and the wild coastline of the Fleurieu Peninsula. Also includes an exploration of wilderness walking possibilities on Kangaroo Island. Later additions include kayaking on the Murray and its anabranches at Chowilla, plus day walks in the Southern Flinders Ranges, Eyre Peninsula coastline and Arkaroola in the arid north.
